He still has plenty of growing up to do. Black one has been adopted.

Loving once he gets to know you. He is a bit on the shy side at first. He is unsure about children as he wasn’t raised around them. So children must be over the age of 10 yrs old to be considered for Sock’s adoption. He is playful. Socks would do well being by himself or with one/two other kitties that are not aggressive. He has short hair of the Siamese and the softness of the Ragdoll. Is a smart and eager to learn. He is the last kitten of this litter. This kitten is ready to leave for new loving home.

Yes, we are finally there!

Hello everyone, when we first started the National Canine Cancer Foundation and wrote our mission statement to saving dogs lives by finding cures, better treatments and accurate, cost effective diagnostic methods in dealing with canine Cancer, it was my hope and belief that I would someday get to write to all dogs owners a letter like this.

It is with great pleasure that the National Canine Cancer Foundation can present to all dog owners who suspect or want to confirm cancer in their dogs, a simple blood test that will detect cancer in dogs.

We all know one of the keys to saving lives and beating cancer in our sweet pups is to find it early enough and thanks to Veterinary Diagnostics Institute (VDI), every dog owner has access to a very simple blood test that will accurately detect cancer in dogs. The blood test is called VDI TKcanine+.

This is life changing and lifesaving news for every dog.

If there is one thing I have heard over and over from people who have lost their dog to cancer is “if I only knew earlier. If there was only a way to find out sooner, my dog might still be alive” Well now there is!.

And I’m asking everyone who reads this letter to spread the word. We need to create an army of people to get the message out to every person who owns a dog.

This is part of the fight against canine cancer where everyone can help.

Please cross post this all your dog email list and on your social media!

Let’s get the word out,

Gary

Below are some of the key informational points on the blood test and how to tell your Veterinarian about the test.

Q: What is this test?

A: VDI-TKcanine+ is a simple blood test for dogs, used to help aid diagnosis when cancer is suspected, and to monitor the course of treatment once the presence of cancer is confirmed. VDI-TKcanine+ is a test run by veterinarians and is made available to all veterinarians in the U.S.

Q: What does this test measure?

A: VDI-TKcanine+ measures two separate parameters in the dog’s blood. The first parameter is an enzyme called thymidine kinase or TK for short. TK is released into the blood stream by cells that are undergoing unusually rapid cell division; a hallmark of cancer. The second parameter the test measures is a protein that detects when inflammation is present; another characteristic of most cancer types. Using these two measurements, VDI-TKcanine+ detects the presence of cancer, often in the early stages before the signs are more obvious.

Q: What is the accuracy of this test?

A: The accuracy of any diagnostic test is typically expressed by its sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity is the proportion of patients that truly have the disease, that result in a ‘positive’ test value (values beyond limits of normal). Specificity is the proportion of patients without the disease that results in a ‘negative’ test value (values within the range of normal). Together, sensitivity and specificity indicate a tests ability to correctly categorize patients with and without disease. By this measure, VDI-TKcanine+ is a very accurate test, with a sensitivity of 96% and a specificity of 85% when the result falls into the category of ‘Positive’. Should the test result fall into the category of ‘High Positive’, the specificity rises to 99%.

Q: What makes this test so special?

A: Until this test was available, often we would have to wait for cancer to develop to the point where the signs become obvious and the cancer mass was detectable either by feeling the lump in your dog, or through the use of radiology procedure such as x-ray and ultrasound. Radiology can be expensive and does not provide a high degree of sensitivity for most cancers in the early stage of development. Conversely, VDI-TKcanine+ is a simple blood test. Compared to radiology, this test is inexpensive. And because it is a blood test, it is looking for cancer throughout the body unlike radiology which examines specific locations.

VDI-TKcanine+ is not only used to help detect cancer, but is also used to help determine how far advanced it is, which can be used to guide treatment decisions. And once treatment, such as surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy occurs, VDI-TKcanine+ is used to gauge the effectiveness of that treatment and determine if the cancer returns or has spread, through periodic monitoring.

The versatility of this test, the accuracy of this test, and the affordability of this test is what sets VDI-TKcanine+ apart from the other cancer diagnostic tests available to dog owners.

Q: How can I have this test run on my dog?

A: Contact your veterinarian and ask them for the VDI-TKcanine+ blood test. The laboratory that provides this test to your veterinarian, and the lab where your dog’s blood is sent for analysis, is Veterinary Diagnostics Institute (VDI). Your vet needs to have an account established with VDI in order to offer you this test. Setting up an account is very easy. Everything your vet needs can be found online or just a phone call away.

For more information you or your Vet can visit: VDILab or call: (805) 577-6742

Or you can use the contact form via this link http://www.wearethecure.org/contact-us
